Joven Habana
In September 2016, University of Toronto PhD student Joanna Kocsis began research on the role of free time in the identity development of young people, using the community of Old Havana as a case study. In hopes of gaining deeper insight into the true value of free time, Joanna chose to use arts-based research methods to engage with her research participants and Joven Habana Popular Theatre Troupe was formed.
After whetting their appetites for drama through several public Popular Theatre performances, the members of Joven Habana asked Joanna if she could support them in the development and production of a short film based on the themes they had explored in their popular theatre pieces.
